How Kids & Families Live Around the World

In looking for some books for 7th grade geography, I remembered a book from a few years ago that showed families around the world posed outside their houses with all their worldly possessions. It was such a great representation of how different and similar many people's lives are in everyday ways. It could really resonate with kids in a way that looking at the GDP does not. I did some poking around and found it: Material World: A Global Family Portrait. There is now a companion book, Women in the Material World, showing women's lives around the globe. The United Nations Population Fund has recently published its State of World Population 2007, with a focus on Urban growth; the website includes a youth supplement about growing up urban in 7 developing nations.
