There's a great exhibit at the
Peabody Essex Museum called
Trash Menagerie. I really wanted to put up a picture from it, but my copyright-contiousness prevented me. They have a series of two and (mostly) 3D animals made out of all kinds of trash and found objects - plastic, metal, fabric and more. The Raggedtailed Dragon Fish is made of brightly colored plastic bottles, while Sweater Dogs was created from a steel frame covered with bits of old sweaters.
One of my favorite items wasn't even in the exhibit itself, but can be seen in the interactive exhibit,
Creative Creatures. It has photos and videos from all over the world featuring found-object art pieces. The one from New York is about Joshua Harris, who creates "inflatable street art" made out of trash bags and shopping bags. They are placed over subway grates in the city and inflate when the trains go by. Amazing.
