Discoveries About Dyslexia

A couple of interesting stories came out this week about dyslexia.

A study reported in Science magazine finds that many dyslexics have some degree of "voice blindness." A story on BBC News (Dyslexia makes voices hard to discern) says, "Because people who suffer from dyslexia are known to struggle with phonemes when reading, a US-based team of scientists wondered whether they might also struggle hearing them in people's voices." I'm not sure if this has any direct implications for educators, but it does seem that science is getting closer to understanding some of the root causes in the brain for dyslexia.

Perhaps somewhat more applicable is the development of a typeface for dyslexics. A Dutch typographer developed the font, which has re-shaped letters to make commonly confused letters more differentiated.
